Cooking Thanksgiving Dinner

Prepare to prepare - when I was reviewing the raw footage I noticed a few steps I missed. Noticeably is more controlled lighting. Not that I didn't have enough, but did get shadows in some camera angles that could have been softened.

Another noticeable aspect in this video is camera shake. I used a flimsy portable tripod instead of my sturdy studio tripod that takes up more room. I also have an image stabilizer on the lens that I could have turned on, but didn't. Anyways the topic is cooking thanksgiving dinner.

There a few tips worth garnishing from this video.

• Clean your kitchen thoroughly before you start cooking. You will want as much open counter space as possible for preparing side dishes.
• First, thaw frozen bird in refridgerator for 2 days, then at room temperature for 1 day prior to cooking.
• When you open the turkey bag after thawing wash with cold water and pat dry with paper towel.
• Use a metal pan with a trivet on the bottom for cooking in. That is the rack shown on pan bottom. This helps the bird cook thoroughly.
• Shown but not mentioned are the strips of bacon on top of the bird. This is a self basting technique to help the skin cook.
• Right after you pull the turkey out of the oven cover it with a kitchen towel and let cool for 10 minutes. This allows bird to reabsorb juices.
• Keep in mind cooking a turkey takes many hours even though I did it in 7-1/2 minutes. Make use of time lapse filming to shorten time consuming shoots.
